Zwift Vs TrainerRoad – which should I use and how they work with our training files and videos

Working with Zwift.

There are three methods for getting our workouts into Zwift either using loading up the ZWO files manually or syncing the workouts directly to Zwift via Training Peaks.

WATCH THIS VIDEO FIRST to find out about the three methods. Then once you have decided on which method to use then you can watch the relevant video with the step-by-step instructions from the videos below.

YOU NEED TO STEP THROUGH THE PROCESS IN THE ORDER THAT THEY ARE PRESENTED IN THE VIDEOS FOR THIS TO WORK. IF YOU DON’T STEP THROUGH THE PROCESS IN THE ORDER THAT IS PRESENTED IN THE VIDEOS, YOU MAY END UP WASTING HOURS.

Method One – Download the ZWO file from our online training centre then upload them to Zwift.

Method Two: Use Training Peaks to load up the files into Zwift via automatic sync.

Method Three: Download the ZWO file from Training Peaks then upload them to Zwift.

Method One – Download the ZWO file from our online training centre then upload them to Zwift

The .ZWO file stands for a Zwift Work-Out file. You can download our Cycling-Inform “.ZWO” file for each of the indoor training sessions from your training centre or Training Peaks then upload them to Zwift to ride to.

PC/Mac

  1. Download your “.zwo” files from either our online trainer centre or Training Peaks
  2. Save it to Documents/Zwift/Workouts/[YourZwiftID] and then start Zwift.
  3. Your workout will now appear under the “Custom Workouts” category in the workouts list.
  4. To organize your custom workouts, you can create directories at Documents/Zwift/Workouts/YourZwiftID and save your workouts to specific directories.

APPLE TV

  1. AppleTV’s hardware doesn’t allow downloading. That’s the bad news. The good? If you first import on a PC or Mac or iOS, Zwift will add that workout to your Apple TV.

Method Two: Use Training Peaks to load up the files into Zwift via automatic sync

Method Three: Download the ZWO file from Training Peaks then upload them to Zwift

How to Change your FTP setting in Zwift

What to do if your custom workouts are dropping in and out in Zwift.

Some users have issues with getting a reliable session using custom workout training files. It’s usually caused by having a poor communication connection between the device you are running the Zwift application on and your home trainer. In this video, I discuss our setup and what you can do to sort out this issue.

Working with Trainer Road

The current version of Trainer Road will only work with our training files. If you want to use Trainer Road with our indoor training videos you’ll need to install the Legacy Trainer Road application on a Windows Computer. The Apple version does not work anymore with our videos. You’ll also need to download the ‘Trainer Road workout creator’ application to load the files up into your Trainer Road account. Everything is explained in the video and in the notes below.

TRAINERROAD WORKOUT CREATOR DOWNLOAD

You will need to download the Trainer Road workout creator from this link to enable you to add our workout files to your account:  http://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/201377834-Creating-a-Custom-Workout

IMPORTANT NOTICE – TRAINER ROAD APPLICATION TO SUPPORT OUR TRAINING VIDEOS

Since July 2019 Trainer Road converted its desktop app to another development platform in order to add a number of features and improve the overall efficiency of the app. However, with the number of improvements they made they did remove a few features from the TrainerRoad app. Unfortunately, the video player is no longer a supported feature.

Moving forward they have advised us that we can install the previous TrainerRoad version on our computers so that we can use video files with our custom workouts. However, this previous update will not include some of the new features that they have added.

You can download this version from the download buttons below for both Windows and Apple computers.

You will be able to find this on your Desktop labelled as TrainerRoad (Legacy).
